My local Garden Club is hosting a Harvest Festival this weekend. Chief organisers Mary Ellen and Bernard have been working tirelessly over the last few weeks to bring it all together. There will be a gardening competition featuring displays of fresh flowers, fruit and vegetables grown by local gardeners all vying for best in show. The festival will host a wide variety of local produce, crafts and garden related stalls but the highlight of the weekend is reserved for the kids (even grown up ones). There will be a Soft Toy Animal Hospital. The brainchild of Bernard, this is a unique opportunity to bring your favourite stuffed toy for a full medical check up. If Teddy’s ear is a bit loose or the tail on your knitted cat, Cuddles, is hanging on by a thread then bring them along. A careful patch-up and lots of TLC should make your furry friends like new again.
The festival is being held in St. Joseph’s Club Community Centre in Bishopswater, Wexford. Saturday (Sept 1) from 3pm -7pm and Sunday from noon to 5pm. Only a fiver to get in, children are free. There are door prizes and raffles and refreshments will be available. So no excuses, get out there in the garden and dig up that fine specimen of a cabbage to show off at your own local harvest festival- it might just be a winner!
